Nature-based Solutions (and the subset of Natural Climate Solutions) play a crucial role in addressing environmental, social and economic challenges by harnessing the power of nature to provide benefits for both people and the planet. While existing tools can highlight the broad potential of nature-based solutions, they often fall short in guiding local actors to identify the best activities for their specific situation. This gap can make it challenging to communicate the benefits of scaling nature-based solutions and fund implementation.
The Climate Positive Land Use Strategy (CPLUS) is designed to address this gap. CPLUS is a stakeholder driven process that leverages local data to help stakeholders evaluate the outcomes of different nature-based solutions strategies, while also streamlining the creation of actionable landscape plans.

Generate multi-stakeholder support for landscape initiatives
CPLUS supports meaningful stakeholder engagement in the design and analysis of landscape plans. With a CPLUS map in hand, stakeholders can assess tradeoffs and synergies, identifying low hanging fruit even in circumstances of disagreement.

Unlock funding by identifying high quality nature-based solutions
CPLUS identifies the most suitable locations to implement nature-based solutions, leveraging the latest science, the best available data, and local knowledge. By assessing suitability across a portfolio of projects, CPLUS can support the development of landscape-wide strategies and elevate projects and their impacts to a level commensurate with the scale of funding available from financial institutions and corporations.

The CPLUS process considers the regional potential for nature-based solutions and incorporates a comprehensive policy review to ensure landscape plans contribute to and align with regional and global strategies for nature.
